Silver Surfers' Day was on May 23rd 2008. Thanks from everyone at DU to all the wonderful Event Holders who became 'tutors for a day' and invited in thousands of older people from their local communities to have a good first-taste of life online.
We were most impressed this year by the diversity of Event Holders: a solicitors' firm in Exeter, a Government Department in Westminster, a digibus in rural Worcestershire, Virgin Media Offices, Channel 4, and many, many radio stations.
The great news is that our wonderful new Learning Zone remains available for use throughout the year and beyond. We will be adding to it as time goes on and we will let you know about this, and other news, via the e-zine - so please make sure you're signed up for it by putting in your email address in the slot on the left of this page. (It won't duplicate your email if you're already signed up.)
We would like to see you year-round on the Question and Answer part of Learning Zone, which is for all to use, regardless of age and silveriness of hair or otherwise. We hope that people from 11 to 111 will come to ask and answer and build up collective knowledge for everyone to 'mine' for the answer that just eludes them.
What's current? Well, the hunt now starts for Silver Surfer of the Year! Go here to find out how you can acknowledge a cyber 'hero' (it might even be you!) http://www.digitalunite.net/ssd/?page=ssy
Silver Surfers' Day is managed by Digital Unite in partnership with Ofcom and is part of Adult Learners' Week.
